The leading biocluster in Finland

BioTurku is the leading biocluster in Finland run by Turku Science Park Ltd which is a regional non-profit seeking development company for the life science actors in the city of Turku. BioTurkuÆ cluster includes and combines over 100 biotechnology companies, 3 universities and several educational and research institutes and a university hospital with National PET-center. The main business areas for BioTurkuÆ are diagnostics and imaging (15 companies), drug development (10 companies) and biomaterials( 10) and functional foods. Additionally service companies account ca. 50 % of the total amount of companies. Also chemistry based material technology within bioscience is an area of expertise. The focus in indication areas are cancer and hormonal diseases, inflammatory and infectious diseases, diseases of the CNS and diagnostics and imaging.
The diagnostics sector is  mainly directed to approaches for personalized and affordable medicine. Diagnostic industry employs over 700 people in companies like PerkinElmer Human Health and Hytest Ltd. Turku University has a department devoted to research and development of technologies with a special connection to India in Indo-Finnish Diagnostic Research Centre.

BioTurku works with a triple helix principle to turn the results of science into practice and business. We help the start ups and SME:s to grow and internationalize and to become competitive growth companies in the global markets. This contains activities in start up phase, incubator phase, networking activities and support in seeking financing and co-operation internationally.
